Trepidation

This painting took me by surprise. I always strive for the underlayers of a piece to have coherence, so as to build on a strong foundation, but this underpainting said "I'm done." I worked only a few hours on this, and then sat and stared for many hours. In the end I found myself unable to take a brush to it and called it complete.
